After breaking both of my plastic handguards at the Pope Creek Frozen Toe race, I wanted to get new ones with a metal core. I looked at several brands, all with a hefty price. Then I found the Magnum brand handguards!! They have a full wrap aluminum core with a tough plastic guard molded over it. The price was half of the other brands and I must admit, the quality is incredible.
Since I was going to be wrenching on my bars to install the guards, I decided to upgrade the handlebars at the same time. I went with the new aluminum "Blade Barz". They have a "Y" shaped honeycomb throughout the inside of the bar which makes them substantially stronger than most aluminum bars, and the detachable crossmember makes getting to the steering tree very easy!! They also come in various metallic colors with a pad that can match or be another color. I went with black bars and a red pad cover. A new set of red ProGrips and my TBlazer was ready to roll.
If you use a handguard system that locks into your handlebar ends, check the depth of the endcap locking mechanism. The Magnum handguards have end locks that are too deep for the Blade'z (the "Y" honeycomb inside the bars starts at about 1 1/2" in), so I had to drill out the honeycomb an extra inch. This was a very easy modification and if anyone needs it done, I would gladly do it just to help out.
I found the Magnum Handguards and the Blade Barz at QDoc's shop in Andalusia. I do alot of shopping for quad parts and must admit, QDoc found me real quality for a really good price. Thanks for that!!
