Well this seems like a dead area of the forum so I thought I would drop a line in here about a new chain I tried this summer. I was running an EK 520 ERT X-Ring chain for about a year. It wore fine for about 6 months and then it got to where I was adjusting it about every 4 hours of ride time. I even took out another link and moved the swingarm all the way up again. This is definitly not a recommended thing to do but oh well. Anyway about mid-summer I had had enough so I bought a DID ATV X-Ring chain. D.I.D. claims that the side plates are thicker than normal for ATV use. They definitly do look heavy duty. Anyway my point is that the EK chain was no cheap peice but it was a peice of something. I had a standard DID O-ring chain on a banshee a few years ago and it was bullet proof. So far after about 5 months this DID X-ring has been just as tough. I have not even adjusted it since putting it on. www.didchain.com/atv.htm

EXCELLENT choice Weck I've had the DID 520 X-Ring on my 400 EX for at least 4 years now. When I bought mine it was one of the few X-ring chains available on the market and this thing has been unreal. Since installing the chain, I've rebuilt the engine, made many rides including "2RvrsATV - Little Sahara '04" and gone through 2 sets of rear brake pads! I can only remember adjusting this chain 2 or 3 times since I've installed it. Other than routine cleaning & maintenance this chain has been a "Set it & Forget it" affair for me. ;D To be honest this chain still shows little sign of wear other than the fact that some of the gold plating is now starting to wear off the sideplates. In terms of getting what you pay for, the value of this chain far outways the price savings of buying lesser chains. At the Quad Doctor we could sell 5 non-O-ring chains for the same price, but then the buyer would be constantly making adjustments & swapping out the chains. What is YOUR time worth? I have installed many chains on numerous quads, but cannot say that I've seen one last so well.

Not all products are worth their weight in gold...
I guess we'll see how long the next one lasts before I make a recomendation.

I recommend a chain with something hanging on it, it gives that extra added statement that yuze a true playa, and dat people shouldnt mess wit ya if they know whats good fo demsleves. It can be gold, silver, or platinum, but make sure you gots it adjusted right cuz a misaligned chain can cause some serious problems if ya know what I mean. You dont wants to be sending da wrong signals to da wrong peeps. As far as longevity, keep it clean and polish it often and it will gain you da proper respect you deserve, the kind dat lasts a lifetime. Any other chain problems, yo I'll solve it, check out the pic, to help you resolve it! - Vanilla X -
