While the stock tires on my Z400 are great all around all purpose tires. Ft. Madison once again reminded me that they are NOT stellar performers in the mud.
Riding with a group of other sport bikes all with Holeshots, or Razors made me once again rethink my tire setup and consider alternatives.
I'd just like to hear what everyones got and why they like them. Give me the good and the bad, performance is snow, mud, hard pack, grass, sliding ability, durability, any aspect you dont care for and so on and so on....
I kind of like the New Holeshot GNCC's, anyone have those???

I used to swear by the Turf Tamer's back in the day. I find them to be the best all around tire opposed to the stockers of today. I always wanted a set that had been grooved to create my own pattern.
As you know I run the Razr 2's. I love the Razr 2's for their excellent cleaning characteristics and bite in the loose stuff. Hard pack, they are less than desireable to me. Too much spinning and sliding. The do slide well in all terrain though. They are 6 ply and very durable.
I am not sure what my next set of tires will be. Maybe I will plant a money tree and buy a different set of tires for different days.

I also use and really like Maxxis Razr2's front and rear. The fronts are great and improve the handling a lot. The rears are almost to agressive but can pull you through in muddy conditions. They get better with use because they will slide better as they wear. They do last a long time too. Shop around for pricing on these though. Parts Unlimited prices are 120+ each.
A friend of mine has GNCC's on his 450R and he likes them too. They do not have the squared shoulder to pull through rutted trails as well though. I have heard that they do wear easily from being a softer tire.
Unless you plan on riding some pretty muddy conditions my official recommendation would be Razr'2s up front and 6 ply original razr's in the rear. Razr2's in the back will bog down a stock 400 too.

I changed the factory carlisles on the rear of my TBlazer to the regular Razrs (6 ply) and had to adjust to the amount of hook-up it made. On the carlisles, I would purposely whip the rear on takeoffs and corners just to have fun, and when I tried the same habits with the Razrs, it threw me around at first. When I tried to whip the quad, the new tires would "just" start to slide and all at once, they would just grab and send me forward! They had crazy grip compared to the old tires and didn't like spinning. It was a very noticable difference for me. In Ft. Madison's mud, I never got stuck from lack of grip....they were all from high-centering on the deep ruts. I also saved about 9 pounds by going with the original Razrs over the Razr2s. I love my new rubber and will soon have them on the front too!!

I also am a big fan off the razrs. I run with razr2's all the way around. But if you want to slide a little better the razr on rear and razr2 on front would be an awesome combination. Keep in mind also the razr is 4ply or 6ply, you must specify which one.

WOW lots a love for the Razr2's here. I've heard the Holeshot GNCC's wear fast like Weck said but I checked their ply rating and its 6 ply just like the Holeshot HD's and Razr's. Hmmmm? Keep the opinions and info coming everyone.... good stuff! P.S. 120+ a rear tire for Razr2's??? YIKES that seems excessive!

I don't know where to get razr's at that price, but rocky mountain atv, and chapparel sells them around 80 each.

/\ What he said. I was trying to secretly steer you towards a free shipping dotcom.
You probably know this but, the ply rating is how thick the tire is not how durable the knobs are. ITP's are a softer compound and will bite hard when new but tend to lose their edges pretty quick. Just my 4 cents...8->

Keep an eye on Ebay if you look towards Razr's. There is a wholesaler on there that sells at a super low price for 2 tires, and they have free shipping. My set of 22x11x10's (6 ply) were $105 to my front doorstep!!! They are brand new and NOT factory blems.

I would like to put my vote in for Carlisle Wooly-Boogers! They ROCK! Nothing like a little retro style! They are 16 ply and wear like a tractor! Anybody who is anybody is running them. They are sweeping the nation at all the mud bog events.

Wooly Boogers were sooo 1990's, I had them on my Yamaha ATC 200ER they were nearly indestructable and bit so well I ended up knocking the rear end out of the trike. Weck, I've never heard that ITP uses a softer compund, but I believe you. Nate and Captn Rod both have Holeshot HD's and its weird because they both have a problem of one tire is more rounded than another. You know how those HD's are supposed to be more square like. Well its like one was over inflated and lost its shape or something. Anyway its made me a little leary of them. How do those Razr's do in the snow??? I was talking to UBN at Ft. Madison and he said somebody in the club had those new GNCC's cant remember who but they probably dont use these forums. Plus just like anything new I'm leary until they've been out awhile and their weakness's have been determined.

I think Razr's are great in the snow, lots of edges to dig in. Maybe go for the Razr2's and gear down one tooth up front if you have not already.
I think GNCC's are a good tire, especially the fronts but a lot of the rutted trails we ride the side edges would help out some.
Just type in your CC # and you will be happy er...
