Ummmm, I may have found the cause of an annoying noise coming from my rear carrier area. It has always been there and sounded like a warped brake rotor (that low squeal-kinda sound at the same point of each revolution of the axle. It gets worse sometimes, and sometimes I don't hear it. I read an article that says it may be a rear bearing that is compacted with crap or has some seized rollers on it. Does this sound correct?! I grease the rear carrier regularly, but my seals may be shot. The brake rotor looks perfect, with no wiggles when turning. The bearing/seals kit was cheap to order, but installing looks like a serious job. Weckster.....buddy......can I add a "little" something to your tune-up visit? hahaha I would love to get rid of that noise and maybe save my axle carrier from future failure. Just a thought.

Unless that bike has seen some serious water or sand riding it is kinda new to be needing axle bearings already. I can help you with that too but it can be a pretty tough job. Never did Polaris bearing job before but its gotta be similar to the mighty Yamaha.

Weck, That website was very cool to read. I knew about the workings of a 2-stroke motor, but having the theory of how a pipe/exhaust works was very informative! It makes alot of sense and just makes me want to get that exhaust put on that much more. Thanks for the info!!

Weck, I got my pipe from HSP!!! Just to be safe though, I am not installing it until after The Cliffs ride. It sucks to have it and not throw it on. The new grips came in too, but the goofs at HSP sent me a set of grips for a twist throttle (bigger right side), so I have to get those exchanged before doing anything. I did get the old ones off in 2 seconds though! A little air blast into the end of the handlebars and they plopped off in my hand. I can't believe they never moved on me without using glue. I had to reinstall them for now so I sprayed alittle 3M adhesive on just to make sure. Oh yeah, the pipe came with 2 diff. main jets so that should help get the mix tuned just right. It looks like the main jet can be removed/changed via a drain plug in the carb bowl so that would sure make that part easier than yanking the whole carb!! Well, just wanted to let you know what's going on on my end. I'll get back with you after the Cliffs to see what we can get done. Thanks Weck. Take care.

You might call HSP and ask them which jet they recommend. Our elevation here is roughly 1000' to 1200' feet above sea level. You might also pick up a couple spare spark plugs too. All two-stroke guys carry extras...Later Jamie

There is a chart with the pipe that shows which main jet performs best at which elevation and at what average temperature. My shop manual also has a very detailed chart showing the same for every jet you can imagine. I do keep 1 extra spark plug with me, but I will grab a few spares next time out.

a handfull of spark plugs is always nice to have when you have that 2 stroke and foul them out.

I bled the rear foot brake on my quad and may have removed that low squeal. The pedal didn't meet the test criteria according to the manual so I bled it and brought it in tolerance. I think that the line had a bubble which kept the rear pads from disengaging fully....and therefore rubbing from time to time. I love my manual!! I started putting the pipe on today, and the d**n thing is so fat and long, I have to tear off most of the left side panels! Now I have a space issue that I wanted to ask you all about. The new pipe's expansion chamber rests directly on the rubber pull start handle (actually leans it off to the side). Even if it didn't melt the handle, it unseats it allowing water/etc. to now enter the pull housing. What do I do with that? Should I look for a cover plate that allows me to remove the pull starter completely? Do I cut down the handle so it can seat right but not be used anymore?! I have no idea how to approach it. Lastly, WECK, I have been doing ALOT of research on tuning/jetting and have a pretty good idea of what it all means and why. My spark plug looks black and alittle sooty so I must be running rich. That is better than lean I guess so I don't damage the engine but will need to dial it in after pipe is done. I hope to ask for some help in the near future with that. Nick really liked my shop (we got his truck exhaust welded), and hopefully you will too!

I can check and see which night I can help on this, maybe Thursday?
As far as the pull start handle goes, I would try to keep it. Shaving it down is not an option huh. We'll have to look at that one. Definitly don't want to keep that hole open.
If it seems to be running rich perhaps the guy that told you its jetted up for a pipe was'nt high after all. We can pull the main jet check the number and just run it to see what you think. Its not like immediate damage can happen from being a little lean.
While you are in the research mood, you might think about converting this thing to run premix and do away with the oil injection. You can run better quality oils and be darn sure that the oil pump does not fail cause it would no longer be in use. A lot of Yamaha Blaster riders do this too. Just my opinion.

Weck, I did shave the handle down where it hits the pipe, but I couldn't take enough off for it to seat completely. If I go any farther, I will open up a hole and still have the "sealing" problem. The handle sticks straight into the dang pipe! I might look into a short piece of rubber hose to bend between the handle and housing, as long as it's heat resistant. The pipe is completely done now!!! I started it up and she sounds like 2 hammers fighting inside a coffee can !!! hahahaha It sounds quite different for sure. With all the ice/snow on the ground I wasn't able to get a real feel for the power difference, but I do know one thing. When the rpm's hit that "sweet spot" for that pipe (about 2/3 throttle), that thing starts SCREAMING and the tires just spinnnnnnnnnnnn. I thought the pipe broke at first! Holy Crap it has a powerband. SWEEEEEEETTTTTTT!!!!! Now maybe I can pass my boy on his LT80. If it gets even better with the proper jetting/settings.........boy howdy I am gonna need 2 pair of drawers! It may sound funny, but remember I bought the quad and had the clutch/filter installed before pick-up so I didn't know it as any different before those parts went in. Actually knowing it before having the new pipe seems like a whole new world. It is sooooooo coooooooooooool!!

What does "boy howdy" mean? lol That's great that the pipe is on and ready to go. Sounds like you feel like it was money well spent which is always good. Can't wait to see your appreciation for that 2-stroke power hit on an up hill climb when that delayed engagement auto clutch combined with harder hitting power match up at the wrong time. At least the Quad Doctor shop is mobile and stocked with handlebars....:-) PS You should go challenge some 250R guys. Their only a 250cc too ya know...

Maybe after I have some decent time in the saddle, I will try to whup' some 250R's. ;D I don't have the high-speed experience to beat any racers even if my quad was just as fast. I might be able to keep up with a 250ex though! I'm waiting for the finale of the Mojo/Mother challenge so I can challenge the loser and work my way up the 250 ladder!! How many members pilot 250cc machines? It's be fun to get them going together for a fun-run race. I called HotSeat Perf's tech center about that pull handle prob as it must happen on every TBlazer that installs their pipe. They never heard of that prob! WHAT!? After trying to explain how real my quad is and how bad the 2 parts hit, they figured I had installed the pipe wrong. Are you kidding me?! Let's see, it's 4 foot long, one solid piece of steel, 2 bolt holes on one end and a big curve on the other...........yep, I guess I could of installed it backwards. I was just starting to get frustrated when he said he thought the TBlazer's pull handle faced at an angle towards the rear. Nope, mine faced straight up like Michael Jackson at a daycare center. Wellllll, it turns out my pull handle assembly must have been removed sometime and reinstalled 90 degrees out. (It has a 4 bolt attachment pattern) Apparently, I just need to pop out 4 bolts, turn back to norm and re-bolt!!! That would cure that prob! I guess I'm learning something new everyday. Weck, Thursdays are my girls late nights at work so I have the little ones (which is why I missed last meeting). My best evenings are Weds. but weekends are usually decent if I don't blow the whole day (she gets mad if left with the kids all day). If any of these times can work, just let me know.....or if you have any time during the day, I may be able to still do it (I love my "job"). Take care.

Mannnnn, you would think a company that only makes ATV performance parts for 2 makes (Polaris and Arctic Cat) would have techs who know their sh_t inside and out! Not Hotseat, nooooooo not them. My pull handle housing does come off fine but the 4 bolt pattern isn't symmetrical so it CAN'T be turned and reattached. The handle faces up and that's not changeable. Another call to the "tech"s at HotSeat put me in touch with a guy who said "Yeah, we had that problem before with our pipe and the TBlazer."!!! Well heck, your cohort said it was unheard of?! The tech puts me on hold (I guess to reread his 'ATV's for Dummies' manual) and goes on to tell me they fixed it by shaving the handle and letting it sit as best it can. Great. These guys charge $300+ for a pipe that doesn't mate with the ATV unless you want to give up watertight integrity on the engine. Gotta love those engineers........."it has to work cuz I drawed it right here on my skreen" AAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!! Well, enough whining from me. I got out the dremel, shaved that handle like a bootcamp barber and shoved it onto the housing with a hose clamp to "help". It'll fit better once I melt most of the top off after a decent ride duration. I HAVE to sacrifice to keep that sweet pipe on the sexiest 250 in the area! Also, Weck, I grabbed a box of 10 extra spark plugs (with feeler gauge) so we can get the ride tuned real close. Take care.
