okay since my mojave is the first 4 stroke quad i have ever owned i was wondering about the gearbox on it. apparently mine has a "wet clutch" is the oil for that engine oil or a gear oil? on the left side of the motor there is two bolts on centered and on on top, to me it looks like a fill and drain hole for the oil but i am not sure. i have looked in my repair manual and owners manual and they dont talk about transmission oil. i am assumming that the engine oil does the cooling for the transmission as well since they dont talk about it.

Yes, manual transmission and semi automatic trannies are considered "wet". A dry clutch would be like the polaris and similar belt drives. Most 4 strokes use the same oil for engine and transmission/clutch lubrication. Some newer 4 strokes (like the Honda 450R) have 2 seperate compartments. One for engine oil, the other for clutch and tranny oil. That helps keep your "dirty" clutch debris from running through the engine side. ie: crank, rod bearings, etc. Looking at some pics, I'm not sure which side your oil fill plug is. I saw what looked like one on the left side top. The drain plug should be under the quad in the middle somewhere. When in doubt, refer to your owner's manual. As far as what oil to use. It basically comes down to personal preference. Some people prefer one brand to the others, but to each their own. Your manual probably gives the desired viscocity it recommends. Can't go wrong if you stick to it. Hope that helps. ;D Merry Xmas

i do know that the oil fill plug is on the right hand side and the drain plug is under the motor. i bought the mojave 4 months back for a 1000bucks from a friend of mine and he hardly ever rode it and it ran very goood but he has done nothing to it since he bought it in 2000. since i bought it i put a uni airfilter, changed the oil, and this week i will be replacing the steering stem. maybe if i remeber i will take pictures of the whole project and post it on here.
