Honda400EX asked about campgrounds near Aledo. You would think a forum junkie like him could start his own thread. Since he lives in Wyoming (isn't that a state a few days drive NorthWest from here???) I can only think of two offhand. There's Sandy Oaks near Keithsburg where you can camp & ride. ;D If there's a full moon out, it's pretty cool to do some late-night riding on their track, but I'd recomend a quiet pipe if you do. If you just want to camp, you can stay at Lake George (Loud Thunder forest preserve) just outside of Andalusia. It's about a 15 minute drive to Aledo, but you can't ride your quads there. You can camp on top of the hill near the lake, or down by the Andalusia Slough on the river, your choice. You can go fishing too if you're into that... Both places have plenty of firewood to be found on the grounds so I wouldn't bother to carry any in myself. Just some newspaper & kindling to get a fire started. Does anybody else know of any other public places to camp in Rock Island & Mercer counties???

You'll like camping at Sandy oaks. They have modern facilities & showers there for when the day is done. They also have electric & water hook-ups if you need them. If your group is respectful of the other campers (equestrians camp there too) they'll probably have no problem driving back to the track. Speaking of dangerous rides, those horses are way more dangerous & unpredictable than any ATV (or even ATC) that I've ridden. Just my 2 cents. Maybe the Consumer Product Safety Commission should leave us alone & go bother some cowboys. While you're thaere, take a good survey of the grounds & keep Sandy Oaks in mind for a "Second Club Ride" later this year. Maybe next fall when it's too muddy to go anywhere else??? I think you'd make a good Ride Host.

I'd camp with you but I'm afraid the chatter of laptop keyboard typing as you post thread after thread on these forums would keep me awake all night.

Ok finally got a call back from this lady on that campground. She told me were more then welcome to come that her husband will keep a section open for us and that there is alot of new trails we can ride on, and there shouldnt be a whole lot of horse action but they will keep us away from them anyhow. So if anyone else wants to camp there let me know and we will save you a spot! Sounds fun to me! Lets make it a party! Cookout!!
