Well I picked up this gem about 6 months ago and did not have much time to work on it at first but I have made a lot of progress lately. The piston and cylinder where toast so I had the cylinder bored to a 416cc with a new 11:1 piston. I also enjoyed cutting out a Lonestar stainless steel swingarm bolt but eventually it came out.
Thanks to Mark at Quad City Quad Doctor / CPR Powersports for the cylinder bore and parts.
Here's what I started with...
Here is the motor tore down to check out the transmission, crank and all internal bearings. A few things that showed some wear were replaced and a complete seal kit was put in.
It was a nice surprise to find this quad had a Hot Rods aftermarket crank in it that is in basically new condition. The cost of that new crank is more than what I paid for the whole thing...
Here is some of the reassembly. All of the valves were taken out and cleaned / checked. New valve seals were put in. Everything looked really good here.
Here is the painted frame and chassis going together. The axle and swingarm bearings and seals were replaced with Pivot Works kits. The front a-arms are stock but off a 400 with a little less mileage. All bearings and ball joints are in good shape.
So now its a roller and the motor is done. Just gotta put the motor in and buy a battery for it. Should be started by next weekend.
This quad will be ridden enough to break in the motor and make sure there are no issues. Then its up for sale. The price will be determined by what the buyer wants on it. It can come with stock tires and stock shocks or some gently used GBC X-Rex tires and re-valved 450r shocks. Trying to decide what to do with the plastic situation too. The red plastic I have is pretty rough in the front.
