Wow was that race a new and beautiful experience!!! I've raced a few 6 hr endurance races, but with the weather and added time this was interesting. The Banned Cretins ran the B class at the 10 hour. The team was Robfast, John Guizzetti and me. John started the race with and grabbed a good start and ran strong for his hour. We were switching riders every hour so we could stay fresh, not get too beat up and get a chance to warm up the fingers and nose.
John handed the duties off to me and we were in 2nd place. I took over and flipped my quad with in a couple of minutes when I hit an off camber jump and flipped me over in the air with the quad landing on top of me. I wrenched my shoulder and got a nasty cramp in my calf but recovered quickly physically but couldn't get comfortable on the quad until it was time for the hand off to Robfast in which we dropped back to 3rd or 4th.
Rob was his usual self on the gas and haulin the mail getting our time back. He had no issues and put us back into striking distance.
John took over and decided to take the Can-Am challenge route. You had 2 routes that you could take, either the long way around or the challenge in which you could cut off atleast 30 seconds of time as long as you made it through ok. The challenge was a series of telephone poles that were criss crossed and so forth and if not hit right you were stuck and noone could help you get off. after that was a big pile of concrete to go over and stay on the gas so you don't get hung up. Last but not least was chunks of concrete and logs to go over. After that you were home free and way ahead. This decision helped us a bunch but with that decision came some fatigue, but worth it. By taking this route John had us back in 2nd.
When I took over I decided to do the challenge. I got hung up on my first attempt dropping us back to 3rd. On my 2nd attempt it put us back in 2nd and then I was passed again when I moved over for a pro and someone in my class was behind him and took advantage of the freebie. I got him back in the challenge and later checked out and put us in 1st place.
I had some problems getting Rob's quad started (I guess it helps to put the tether in). Rob pointed this out to me when I was pushed down to the pits and he was back at it on the gas. Because of the delay we were put back into 3rd. He rode hard to get us back up front when John took over.
John was riding hard then doom fell over the team when his circuit breaker kept blowing. He got back to with in 100 yards of scoring when it quit all together. He ran to the pits and got me. When we got back an official offered to tow us but it would cost us an additional lap on top of our already lost time. We said we would push it and he said John had to push it himself, through a valley, over some rocks and into scoring. We got it towed and knocked us down to last. He finished his time on my quad then I took over riding hard to get our time back.
We had 3 hrs left to race and strapped the helmet on and got on the gas. When I took over we had come from 9th to 6th and was over 12 minutes behind 5th place. When I handed it off to Rob we were about 4-5 minutes down and Rob brought it home for us putting us into 5th place for the finish.
We had some good team work, kept our heads high and know that we rode as hard as we could. Every time we lost some time we were able to run them back down, even from several minutes out. In our hearts we won this race, but on the plaque it said 5th place. Oh well it was fun and a great experience.

You look good on a Honda. Maybe someday you'll push the throttle a little further...;-)
