Sorry I could not get those magazines to you before today. To bad about the YFZ, does it sound like something is broke or did it just chug some water? Want help working on it, I'm much cheaper than JJ.
Why not take another Yamahammer. You'd look great on a black Raptor. I will give it to you free when you purchase a set of $3700 grips from me...

At this point not sure what I did. At first I thought it was a water issue, but after draining the carb and removing the air box(which was about 1/4 full of water) all it will do is pop every now then when cranking but never actually start. I' m thinking I need to change the oil as I do believe it is possible for water to leak past the rings. I could be wrong on that not sure? Otherwise I my guess is I'm having a valve issue. Not ready to take to Jerry yet. Actually thinking if it is a valve issue that isn't going to warrant a rebuild. Might try talking to the quad doctor. Heard some good things about him.
Weck, that is unless you have the tools needed to check and repair valves? I'm already going to have to buy feeler gages for the clearance tolerance. $3700 is fairly decent for thos grips but I would have to offer much less. Sorry Pal. Even though I am extremly happy with all my yamy's I think my next quad will be the Z400. Not ready to by new or used yet though.

I would assume since it is a yamaha, water and their electrical systems usually dont get along. Especially in Astoria, I've seen many Raptors and YFZ's puke because of water getting into electrical stuff.
My 450 found some deep stuff there a little over a year ago and needless to say, she swallowed a bunch of water.

Probably not relative to the YFZ problem but I have a compression tester if you want to borrow it, feeler gauges too.
Anytime I take an electrical connector apart I always blow it out with air and maybe some contact cleaner then put dielectric grease in the connector to seal it up. Just a thought.

I'm a little surprised to hear that, but an excellent choice none the less. Most 450 riders stay with 450's when they get something new. At least your name would be easy to change, just drop the YF and go with MrZ! ;D .........good luck with the yamy!

Lets see, where to start?
UBN, Never have had a problem with water in 4yrs but anythings possible. Hopefully for the most part if it that its something that will dry out.
Weck, want to buy the gauges anyway and if you know what compression the yfz is supposed to have that would help but I always thought the best way to do a compression test was with it running. I'd be more than happy to take you up on that tester and some help if you had some time though. I also usually pack die electric grease in any connector I've had apart.
X, I've always been a fan of the Z, but my love for yamy's was to strong and I loved what I read about the YFZ when it came out. Maybe someday yamaha will put a reverse on a YFZ450 style quad then I'd probably stick with that.
Thanks for the input guys. You know any help is good help.

Mr. YFZ......why the Z400 and not the LT-R450? If it's just the reverse issue, how about the KFX450?? That thing is supposed to be the cat's meow right now. Dirtwheels (and their sister mag 4-wheel ATV Action) has a 450 sport face-off in the latest issue. Different 450's were praised for different uses (dunes, MX, trials, etc.) but it is a great side by side comparison for someone looking at a 450 sport.

Wait4me, I said I always liked the Z400, but my love for yamaha made me get the yfz.
The lt-r450 is way to wide for trail riding, especially in the wfo harescrambles. Not to sure about the looks on that kfx, not to mention the aluminum chassis and fuel injection. Like to see how well all that works after a year or so.
Hey Mojo, Is it the quad doctor thats helping you or qdoc.

To test compression you just screw the gauge into the sparkplug hole and turn it over with the starter. I could find online what the psi is supposed to be. That is probably not related to your starting problem. I'm not sure of your mechanic skills so I don't wanna insult you by throwing out simple tips. If you get stumped start a thread on this in the quad maintenance area.

Hey Mojo, Is it the quad doctor thats helping you or qdoc. Quad Doctor = qdoc You might be thinking about QC Quad Doctor. Either way I am giving Qdoc aka Quad Doctor aka Loran a try with the assist on rebuilding the engine. I would give him a try as he gives generous discounts towards club members.

Yfz i have a compression tester you can borrow, If you are still having problems ,Take it to Brennys in Silvis .Mark Brenny Jr works there and is a better mechanic than anyone except jerry Jackson.............Matt take all of your electrical apart an clean them . Then put dielectrical grease on them .If you dont have any I have a big tube you can borrow.

Matt, I wouldn't have anybody work on it. I have some custom knife cut straps that you could use to "haul" your quad. When it falls off call your insurance company.
