700 acers I hope I can make it sounds like a good time..... Question Lets say I have 120 acers and about half that is timber and I want to have a club ride there.. some one breaks a leg can he or she come back on me as far as legal action since it is private land? Just wondering

We are currently working as a club to get that type of question answered. There are many riding opprotunities that could open up as soon as we can have some concrete answers...
Fast Cat knows a little more about that subject than me.

Wasn't there something to do with the ATVA that had answers to that question??? Are liability waivers a way around these liability issues? I've spoke with the owner of Brushy ridge (near Astoria, IL). She said that by making the area a "club" park it satisfied teh insurance company who wanted to shut them down years ago. As diverse as our club is, we probably have many members who could host a club ride if they knew it wouldn't come back to haunt them. Unfortunately, I think every landowner has to consider the possibility of some some freak accident mixed with a greedy lawyer in our sue-happy society.

well that stinks I remember a day when you could ride on any ones property and for the most part no one cared as long as you didn't tear it up to bad..... But your right about the sue happy people.. I don't think any of the club riders are but there are cliffs up there and it boarders a rock quarry and if someone road off of one of them I wouldn't want to have to deal with their wifes or kids or other family members suing my grand parents for being nice enough to let us ride there so maybe private invite only.I don't know what else to do but I would like to share it with everyone. Maybe some day I will own it and do the whole waiver deal but I'm not sure that covers much anymore

Come down to Rockport & see what a "normal" club ride goes like... You may want to consider if you'd like to make your place one of the club's "second monthly" points rides. ;D These rides are detremined by club members at the monthly meetings & I would think that you could certainly make a request/stipulation that only club members can attend. I'm pretty sure there is something in our constitution by-laws about club members not being able to sue so that should alleviate some of the potential risk. I'm not qualified to answer that for certain, but that's what I've heard.

I've never been there before, but if I lead, I'll have to slow my pace down! I can lead an old man to the trails, but I can't make him a good rider!!

Honda400EX,
Your best bet is to come to the meeting & ask if anyone has room on their trailer to car-pool.
As it turns out, I have some empty spaces on my 6-place right now. All I ask is if you want to reserve a spot that you: #1) Let me know ASAP. #2) Discuss when & where to load up w/ me beforehand. I may ask a fellow club member to lead the convoy from Southpark down 67S to Preemption so I can avoid back-tracking if possible. #3) Bring some clean clothes for "after the ride". It's our family's van. #4) Share in the travel expenses of course. The more riders, the smaller the share...
Later, "Doc"

Straight from their website under Rules and Regulations...
" - Excessive speed and reckless driving is not permitted. "

Look on the bright side, at least you won't have to worry about the excessive speed part.

Look on the bright side, at least you won't have to worry about the excessive speed part. You're Right! I won't have to worry about it as long as I'm behind you. If you were a better rider, I don't think I'd pick on you as much! Ooops, did I type that aloud?
